True to its DNA, Luna Classics will incite a new, first-ever collaboration between Nigel Kennedy and – this year — Jean-Luc Ponty. Two of the most important violinists of our time will come together for two unique soirées on the shores of Lake Léman (Geneva). Despite their different musical backgrounds, Nigel Kennedy and Jean-Luc Ponty had the same mentor — Stéphane Grappelli, who saw in them the renewal of the violin as an instrument. Nigel Kennedy brings jazz, rock and pop to classical music. Inspired by be-bop, as well as the great jazz saxophonists and trompet players, Jean-Luc Ponty brings his own, very individual sound to the violin. The encounter between these two exceptional artists promises to be powerfully creative ; it will range from the acoustic to the electronic and visit the musical repertoire of the last three centuries.

This encounter will in effect be the third violin summit. In 1966 Jean-Luc Ponty brought together for a recording some of the greatest violinists of that time (Stéphane Grappeli, Stuff Smith and Svend Amunsen). In 1972 he repeated the experience with other musicians, which led to the 2nd violin summit. But, as they say in French, you cannot have two without three, so 40 years on, Nyon will welcome the third summit!
